My biggest grievance is that Edwards overwrites every scene. This was very liberating, and allowed me to attain a certain level of detachment from one character while working on another. The subject matter of the book is heart-rending. The doctor then lies to his wife and tells her their daughter died at childbirth. For whatever reason, families tended to brush things under the rug and keep skeletons in the closet. The story unfolds over 25 years - two families, unknowingly bound by the fateful decision made long ago.💓
