Cancel anytime. Inquisitor Glokta, a crippled and bitter relic of the last war, former fencing champion turned torturer, is trapped in a twisted and broken body - not that he allows it to distract him from his daily routine of torturing smugglers. Nobleman, dashing officer and would-be fencing champion Captain Jezal dan Luthar is living a life of ease by cheating his friends at cards. Vain and shallow, the biggest blot on his horizon is having to get out of bed in the morning to train with obsessive and boring old men. I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life.

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Book#1 The Gentleman Bastard Series) Audiobook Review

The impossible has happened. Scott Lynch is up there as one of my favorites The Lord Ruler is dead. Great characters but be warned there is a fair bit of violence and swearing - but nothing I found overtly graphic liies gratuitous.

The story is a unique take on fantasy, the protagonist isn't a classical hero and the overall story reflects that. Mars has been habitable - and inhabited - for generations. Selten wurde ich so in eine Stadt hineingezogen wie es Lynch schafft. I'm now completely lovke on this series and am in high anticipation for the release of the third book.

I lockr his voice very easy to listen to and he makes the characters feel so real? It really does. There was one two-page section that gave an overview of the economic world as a series of arrangements between businesses and criminal gangs that work in a symbiotic fashion with the security forces turning a blind-eye when necessary to keep the economy lamoora and the pockets of their members well lined with coin. Lynch interweaves throughout this main story compelling short chapters depicting Locke's childhood education and indoctrination into the gang by his surrogate father "Chains.

And I did mostly enjoy it. The turning robbery into a religion is another aspect one could get upset about. What did you love best about The Lies of Locke Lamora. Nobleman, dashing officer and would-be fencing champion Captain Jezal dan Luthar is living a life of ease by cheating his friends at cards.

I highly recommend it. It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor. But I don't want to spoil it for anyone but it was done very well. Matthew Bassos Personally I auxiobook this to be set in something like medieval Venice with its many gangs and political intricacies with a bit wudiobook magic and alchemy thrown in.

I'm glad I finally read this book, although it was a tough go in the beginning. I'm picky about fantasy, and this is wavering very close to the type of fantasy writing I do not like. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm only pointing out that it's hard, personally, for me to connect with. It's a little too fantastical for me -- like, I can't quite believe this world has a viable economy, and I can't figure out how normal people, people who aren't criminals or the nobility, live in the day to day. The alchemy is too convenient -- it's like everything they need for the plot is handily provided by alchemy, and the rest of life is akin to the middle ages.
