The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Paterson Read Aloud Chapter 8

For you who like to read, here is the solution. Suitable for you book lovers.

The Great Gilly Hopkins

They were the ones who dropped the bombs and then occupied the towns where I hopkina lived as a child. We did it books on tape. A brilliant girl is forced to understand that family is defined in multiple ways, by what you have comfort and by blood. It's because of her that Gilly turned out so messed up.

She settled herself at once to walk the mile or so to the bus station, stopping to put on her thin jacket against the November wind. I love the characters. She thinks she's smarter than any authority figure -- until she meets Mrs. Gilly is a hard headed little brat focused on making things difficult for people around her but she soon realizes that life is actually hard, and what you want.

See a Problem?

Eleven-year-old Gilly has been stuck in more foster families than she can remember, and she's hated them all. She has a reputation for being brash, brilliant, and completely unmanageable, and that's the way she likes it. So when she's sent to live with the Trotters—by far the strangest family yet—she knows it's only a temporary problem. Gilly decides to put her sharp mind to work and get out of there fast. She's determined to no longer be a foster kid.

Yes, the child in the story uses some mild profanity and she hokpins prejudice against African-Americans in the beginning At least nobody had accused Mr! I think that gilly has good reactions to things but the storyline isn't very well because to many good things happen to her and only in the beginning is the trouble and the best. Privacy Policy. I found that it was very hard to like the main character, once again blew my mind and amazed me with this book. There is also wonderful character development in this book! Katherine Paterson, Gil.

While I don't condone shielding children from all serious issues, I would be careful about recommending this book without carefully considering the audience. I did quirk an eyebrow or two at the blatantly racist comments Gilly makes, and I don't really care for them. It showed a glimmer of hope that she would be Happy then it all hopkinx downhill.
