And there are a ton of writers who apparently just want to make me happy, because there are many, many—seriously, so many! What might be out there? Aside from The Truth, obviously. And so my criteria for putting together this list was simple: a work of science fiction or fantasy set at least partly in outer space, or on a planet other than Earth that required space travel to get to. Here are 50 speculative works that play with Spaaaaaaaaaace in all its mystifying, occasionally terrifying, really freaking huge glory, in alphabetical order. With most of Europe, Asia, and North America knocked off-line, thousands of satellites about to plummet to Earth, and the political minefield that is the rescue of an international group of astronauts trapped on the international station, time is of the essence.

Well, we did it, folks. This poll had some heated debate over on the Facebook group about what books should count as Space Opera! Now, ordered from 10th to the very top Space Opera book, we present the top 10 selections for the best Space Opera books and series of all time. Want to see who didn't make the cut?     For this list, we will take a look at of the best science fiction books of all time. These works were chosen for their historical significance, their legendary status as classics, their interesting subject matter within the genre, and their entertainment value. Fantasy is sometimes included as science fiction due to the fictional species and alternative sciences of magic found in the stories. 🕳

    As much as the Basilisk system was supposed to be a less-than-interesting punishment assignment, it turns out to be a bit of a linch pin in a the aggressive plans of the Haven Republic. This book takes a realistic look at how a first contact with aliens might go down! But when a pair of fugitive terrorists gain access to the Ananke, Althea must draw upon her heart and soul for the strength to defend her beloved ship. Works in the series have received numerous awards and nominations, including five Hugo award wins including one for Best Series!🙉
